China is the largest country in the world. With more than a billion inhabitants, you can't really visit the whole of China. Some places are poor - really poor - while some places (made to visit) are worthy tourist attractions, and show you a fake reality of China. But well, I wasn't there investigating the plights of Communism, I just wanted to have a good time over there.
Beijing - an OK place. Very crowded, but with many nice places to shop around. Electronics is cheap, and low quality. I did spend quite a lot over there. In the north of Beijing, there's the Great Wall of china - I was expecting only to see a wall (heh), but no. The great wall of china spans across four thousands of miles, and the best place to check it out (where the wall is not in ruins), is in the Northern part of Beijing. The view over there is superb. It's not a wall - this is a true boundary... I wonder who got the idea to build this kind of wall. Today, such a project would be considered as foolish... very foolish and impossible. But someone got that idea (or maybe, loads of people - it was after all, a necessity) and the construction was started at around 200 or 400 B.C.
You might also want to visit Xi'An. Xi'An was once, and many times, the capital city of China during the rule of several emperors. The museums over there aren't that bad, and the Bell Tower is a must-visit.
Maybe the one and final place to visit, one of the last truly beautiful places in the world is the The Three Gorges. A dam is currently in construction over there (the chinese govt says it'll be complete in 2009), but the wonderfully twisting valleys and landscape is truly what you might call "beautiful". Yes, this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. And believe me, I've seen many places before.
If it was only for the Great Wall, and the Three Gorges, China is worth spending your money
